Connecting People To God

I came across the below article. I’m including the link.

I had a great conversation last night with a friend. Initially (a year ago), he said he was atheist, but he said he has spiritual beliefs now (not Chrisitian but something). Anyways, he mentioned that Kurt Vonnegut didn’t want Christianity (or God) to be disapproved because of the impact on his friends. It’s a quote of a quote….so it could be inaccurate. My reason for mentioning that is there are examples where people may disagree with beliefs…but respect the results or impact.

This article is from an African atheist explaining the value of missionaries rather than money in Africa. So many times, an article or point of view is so one-sided, that it is hard to get past the bias (whether you agree with the author or not).

I liked this article because clearly the author doesn’t agree with the worldview of the missionaries, but does agree with their Connecting People to God.

It is by Matthew Parris and is called “As an atheist, I truly believe Africa needs God”

There are so many email distributions that I’m hesitant to recommend loading anyone’s email inbox any more than it currently is. However, I find Prime Time With God which comes daily quite valuable. It’s short (about a minute to read). It contains a short prayer, followed by a short relevant lesson, concluding with a product/report relating to the lesson.

I thought this was an interesting article in that Gertrude Baines at a mere 114 years old credits God.

Here is the link to the CNN story.

Just think…..if you retired at 67 (the age for my generation according to Social Security) and lived to 114, you’d spend 47 years in retirement. Wow!!!

I take grad classes at Liberty University towards a Masters in Christian Leadership.  The first class that I completed (in ‘08) was CLED 510 which is called Biblical Foundations of Christian Leadership.  The study guide that goes along with the class is written by Elmer Towns who has lots of additional free information on his website called Spiritual Breakthroughs.

Anyways, the object of the course was to explore various leadership examples in the Bible.  I’m sure many of you know some of the great leaders in the Bible such as Jesus, David, Moses, and Abraham.  However, there were so many additional ones and the application to today’s world is simply incredible.  The class was primarily an exercise in studying the leadership traits of each leader, then writing a paper summarizing, reflecting, and analyzing that person.  Since it’s an 8 week class, we certainly didn’t write a paper on all of the below.  However, I’ll just list the table of contents and you’ll get the idea.

Abraham:  The Entrepreneurial Leader
Jacob: The Pragmatic Leader
Joseph:  The Decision Making Leader
Joseph:  The Strategic Leader
Moses:  The Charismatic Leader
Moses:  The Administrative Leader

I think this class is a great standalone class for a business leader in the secular world that is looking to find common ground in the Bible.  I bet most wouldn’t have guessed there was so much “Leadership” ground in the Bible.  I know before the class…… I didn’t know.

As I reflect back on 2008 and look forward to 2009, I’ve been thinking about key categories to address in life.  I’ve thought of 5 key categories.  It’s kind of like a football team.  If you have your offense, defense, and special teams all functioning at a high level, you will win the game.  If you have two of three, you can still win, but it might not be quite as easy.

 Here are my five categories.

1. Your salvation / church
2. Your marriage / dating
3. Your children / extended family
4. Your finances/ career
5. Your health

 If you address all five of these categories in your life……would you be happy?  What about 4 out of 5?  Are there any that you could do without?  Are there any key categories missing?

 During my brief life so far, I’ve experienced ups and downs in each.  More on that later.

What better time to make an initial post then in the waning hours of 2008.  I’ll explain more about myself and the purpose of this website in the About tab…..but here is some information to kick this site off.

I’m new to blogging and come across so much fascinating information that I currently communicate verbally.  I thought I’d try to post some of the information out for friends, family, and any other interested parties.

I have a business related blog as well at potus2100.com, but since I enjoy my Christian beliefs, relationships, and research so much, I decided to create a standalone Christian site.  Since I have some friends that are missionaries and have seen many of their websites list a statement of beliefs, I’ll have to work on listing out mine.  It seems like everyone does this as a minimum starting point.

Anyways, whoever reads this, I hope this site helps on your Christian journey.  Welcome to 2009.  Happy New Year!!
